December 20: New Person #best09 Gwen Bell

She came into your life and turned it upside down. He went out of his way to provide incredible customer service.
Who is your unsung hero of 2009?

If you have followed my blog for a while, you will familiar with my Mother's story. You can read it here, if you are not. The so-called specialist in a supposedly excellent private hospital had signed her death warrant, explaining that she was not a candidate for surgery under any circumstances. His reasoning at the time seemed to be completely justified and rational - I'd have been in there kicking his medical butt if there had been even an element of doubt for either of us. In hindsight I am so angry that she suffered through six months of hell unnecessarily. She was returned home to await her slow, painful, degrading death. Upon the haemorrhage which precipitated her ambulance trip to a closer - but not as sterlingly reputed - hospital, we were prepared for her not to return.

In steps Dr McClintock, Urologist. Our unsung hero of 2009. Why, he asked, if her hips were bearing her full body weight when she walked, would they not be able to withstand the operation? Why, as they were aware of the issue and would be extremely cautious, would anyone suggest they would break? Twenty minute procedure, fully encapsulated tumour removed, I have a healthy, happy Mum back.

He not only saved my mother, he also saved me.

Oh, and did I mention he was awfully cute?
